Secretary-General of the Islamic Union: Iran can play a more effective role in breaking the political deadlock in Iraq

Secretary-General of the Kurdistan Islamic Union, Salahaddin Muhammad Bahaaddin, met on Thursday with the Iranian ambassador to Iraq Muhammad Al-Sadiq.

This came during a visit made by the Secretary-General at the head of a high-ranking delegation to the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Baghdad.

At the outset of the meeting, Secretary-General congratulated Al-Sadiq on the occasion of assuming the duties of his new job as his country's ambassador to Iraq.

During the meeting, the Secretary-General to the Iranian ambassador presented the visions of the Kurdistan Islamic Union regarding the issues that occupy the Iraqi political arena.

Secretary-General added: "The plurality of components forms the splendid Iraqi mosaic, and this coexistence between the components paints the big picture of the nation."

On the relationship between Iraq and Iran, the Secretary-General said: "Iraq and Iran are neighbors that share religious, cultural, historical and geographic ties."

He added, "Neighboring Iran can play a more effective and influential role in breaking the political deadlock, and the two countries can become the mainstays of regional political and social stability."

He continued, "The Kurdistan Region is not isolated from the positive or negative effects of the current political situation in Iraq, and this requires solving the outstanding problems between Baghdad and Erbil through a constructive dialogue."

For his part, the Iranian ambassador expressed his happiness with this meeting, saying: "The Islamic Union can continue to play a positive role." "It is desirable that the Islamic Union communicate with the Iraqi parties, as we consider that its orientations serve the Iraqi issue."
