Secretary-General to McGurk: referendum is a political, legal and civil mean to reach the independence of Kurdistan

Salahadin Muhammad Bahaaudin Secretary-General of the Kurdistan Islamic Union on Thursday evening 14-9-2017, received a telephone call from Brett McGurk the representative of US President in the international coalition against ISIS.

During the telephone call, McGurk explained to the Secretary-General the proposals of his country and the coalition countries and the United Nations on the referendum on the independence of Kurdistan from Iraq, and reviewed the vision of the coalition countries and alternatives offered.

For his part, the Secretary-General, explained the vision of the Kurdistan Islamic Union to the representative of the US president, saying that : "referendum is a political and legal mean and civilian to access to the independence of Kurdistan, which is a natural right of the Kurdish people."

"We respect the vision of the United States and the coalition countries and their proposals on the referendum, and we will discuss them with the Kurdish political leadership," he said.

Secretary-General of the Kurdistan Islamic Union added that "In any case, our people are waiting for the support of the United States and the support of the international community, and it has not forgotten your aid to Kurdistan".
